Hello, Happy New Year and How YOU doin’ (latter done in my best Joey from Friends voice).
I hope everyone is enjoying a hearty kick-start to 2012, but let’s all remember…it takes ongoing decisions, commitment and action to keep the excitement of the new year sizzling with results ongoing. Hallelujah to that, right?!
Erica Allison was the first to submit the word Happiness, and I think it’s the most appropriate word to start off with.
I’m a big fan of Gretchen Rubin’s website and book “The Happiness Project” And if you check this out, you’ll see that Gretchen has a 2012 Happiness Challenge that you can sign up for. Check it out:)
Lori Gosselin recently published her book The Happy Place , and I was delighted to have written a review of it prior to its official launch.
But how do you define happiness?
Christian Hollingsworth wrote a wonderful post entitled ” Happiness Doesn’t Depend Upon Who You Are or What You Have“, stating that happiness is wholly dependent upon what you think. And I agree. Our thoughts create our reality, and each person’s thoughts are their own. I guess that’s why “perception is reality” is such an apt phrase.
Erin Feldman added the word Humor. And I believe to be Happy, it’s important to inject some Humor into our lives. The ability to lighten up, laugh at ourselves and with (not at) others, to smile and find the fun and frivolous in each and every day is like the proverbial apple a day…it keeps the doctor away. I remember reading once that if you’re too busy to laugh, you’re entirely too busy, and that being fun to do business with usually results in doing a lot more business. I agree:)
And while we’re dealing with humor, it seems an appropriate place to mention that Craig McBreen gave me Hemoglobin and hell-raiser. Yeah, thanks for that Craig:) What am I supposed to do with that? Other than finding out that hemoglobin is in the red blood cells of all vertebrates, with the exception of the fish family Channichthyidae (and yes, I did get that from Wikipedia, I admit it), and knowing that a few hell-raisers have been known to frequent the comments section, I have no idea how to link that to business. But no…I take that back. I learned something new today, and lifelong learning and a thirst of knowledge is what makes us better and better in business every day. Take that, you hell-raiser you, Craig:)
Not to be outdone, Stuart Mills gave me Hobbit and Hesitancy. Well, I really knew nothing of Hobbits, so chalk another learning experience up for me today. I did find out there’s such a thing as a Hobbit Name Generator that I was too chicken to try out, and that Hobbit Movie News has 41,649 followers at the time of this writing. How’s that for having some cocktail party trivia up my sleeve:)
And as far as Hesitancy goes, I don’t believe that hesitancy – a reluctance to commit, a disinclination to work or exert oneself, or unwillingness are characteristics of success, in business or in life.
Shakirah Dawud submitted Hurry, as in “Don’t be in a hurry”. I like that, because it puts me in mind of one of my favorite quotes: “We never have time to do it right the first time, but we always have time to do it again.” So true, especially when we hurry to get something done. And this quote, by Lewis Carroll ~ “The hurrier I go the behinder I get”.
Grammy stopped by this site for the first time during the “G” series and said: “In 2012, it would be good to see more Hope, Honor and Humor.” Can’t argue with that!
And Samantha Bangayan offered the word Healing. And there seems to be a lot of Healing going on as we enter 2012. People are talking about letting go of the difficulties of the past year, and are speaking with enthusiasm and determination about their dreams and goals. And people like Samantha are sharing those dreams. I love the quote she shares: “If you don’t have a dream…how you gonna have a dream come true?” — Kermit Ruffins
I’ll end with my own word, and that’s Honesty, first and foremost to oneself. As Shakespeare said: “This above all, to thine own self be true.”
